is the canvas not supposed to have tiny stitches? I am extremely confused as one tailor shows one thing and another shows something else. cheers

Nicholas,This is a skeleton baste, the lapel padding is done AFTER this first fitting.

Look through my website, you will see jackets at the forward, or second fitting stage with the lapels padded, the small stitches you are referring to!
